as critical back drops, let's turn to tonight's debate. president obama and governor romney in final preparations. the latest polls have the president remaining ahead but maybe by a narrower margin. in trade showing obama ahead by two about a 72% probability of being re-elected. our chief washington correspondent john harwood live at the event site in denver. john, what's the objective for romney tonight? what does he need to do? >> mitt romney's got a very big task. he's got to do a couple things at the same time. first he's got to find a way to dent the argument that bill clinton and barack obama made at the democratic convention about how president obama's done as well as anyone could do in turning the economy around the last four years. secondly, he's got to make a positive case with passion, with credibility for his own economic plans, for how he's going to make life better for 100% of americans. third, he's going to have to deal with that 47% video which has really taken a toll on his campaign. he's got to do all those things at the same time. we've seen the history of debates,

obama and mitt romney squaring off in the first of three presidential debates. there's been a lot of talk that the market is already pricing in an obama re-election. in fact, in trade showing betters placing a 70% chance on an obama re-election. but some new polls suggest romney is closing the gap. so what happens to the markets and your money if mitt romney pulls ahead or wins? joining us, art, is a romney win bad for stocks? art, we're going to get your mike running. is a romney win bad for stocks? >> i think a romney win is great for stocks. at least the psychology will be two things. first, first cal conservati first, fiscal conservative coming in 2013 to help with growth prosper. second thing, who's going to handle the fiscal cliff the fastest. i think if things remain the same, the fiscal cliff will take a lot longer to fix. we'll have to drive off the cliff and step back from it some time next year. two levels of stock appreciation will be assumption that you get better growth in the economy and the fiscal cliff gets fixed quicker. >> that's a very good point. peter wufb's

have no access to. mitt romney has said in one of the debates in his ideal future system, this super pacs would emerge, but there it be immediate disclosure so that people would know and be able to judge and track any concerns about corruption. my guess is that asserted the next place to go. nsh, the fpc is a particularly dysfunctional body. you know, there is really no good for is that we've had for a while, and also the disclosure mechanisms that they are improving someone to remain far behind what is possible today. it should be the case that as soon as they are cashing the check, there is no reason that many can't show up in a database is supposed to online for any group spending money and influence peers about be my guess of where you go next. the other political ring that will happen here is whatever the outcome of the election, democrats tend to make this a populist appeal. they intend to use part of the democratic narrative for years. we will help the working guy. i think obama signaling in the interview i have read that he would -- that he would pursue a constant commitment.
